Freelance Cartography

We make custom maps for a variety of uses, including trail and travel guidebooks, displays, and brochures, and websites.

We are local experts on the Bay Area, California, and the Western US. We can map pretty much anyplace you need a map for, from your neighborhood to your region to the world. We do our best to provide both the essential information and a sense of place.

We design stand-alone maps in an appropriate, informative style; we also routinely work with our clients' designers to craft maps that work as part of a larger project.

In partnership with graphic designer Shizue Seigel, we offer design and production for brochures, books, and displays.

Whether you need one map or a hundred, let us know! We'll be happy to discuss your project and provide a cost estimate.

Getting Started

We work from a variety of sources to make accurate maps that convey essential information as well as a sense of place. Ideally, you can provide marked up maps and/or a list of places to be included, plus useful sources and links. It is helpful to provide the dimensions of your finished piece (if known), how you are going to output it (whether print or laserprint or electronic formats) and when you need it by.

We create finished map art in Adobe Illustrator (and a little bit of FreeHand and Photoshop) ready for including in black and white or color layouts. For websites we output in a variety of useful formats, including PDFs, JPEGs, and PNG files.

We work primarily in the graphic realm, however we are able to use GIS files as a starting point.

Call or email us if you have any questions. Thanks for your interest!
